How to activate an Xbox game code

14.10.2026 · Step-by-step: where to enter the code, why the region matters and what to do if it fails.

Xbox controller on a desk

An activation code is the simplest way to get a game on your own account: you redeem it once and the game stays with you forever. Here is the whole process, step by step.

What you need

  • An Xbox One or Xbox Series console, or the Xbox app on a PC
  • A Microsoft account — the one you want the game on
  • The 25-character code we send after payment

Redeeming the code

1. Press the Xbox button on your controller and open the guide. 2. Go to Store and choose *Redeem*. 3. Enter the code and confirm.

Alternatively, open microsoft.com/redeem in a browser and sign in with the same account.

Region matters

Codes are tied to the region they were bought in. A Turkish code is redeemed on a Turkish account, a US code on a US account. If the redemption fails with a region error, the account region and the code region do not match.

If the code does not work

  • Check for typos: 0 and O, 1 and I look alike
  • Make sure you are signed in to the right account
  • Try the browser instead of the console — the error message is more specific there

If nothing helps, write to us in the order chat: we will check the code and replace it if it turns out to be faulty.

What about Primary and Secondary?

Those are different options. Primary activates your console as the home console of our account — you play from your own profile. Secondary means you sign in to our account and play from it, so you need an internet connection. A code is the only option where the game stays on your account permanently.
